NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a mandatory referendum will be held in the Town of Otisco, County of Onondaga, State of New York on August 27, 2024, for the purpose of voting on the adoption of a local law subject to mandatory referendum.
REFERENDUM DETAILS:
The proposition to be voted upon is as follows:
Proposition No. 1: Shall Town of Otisco Local Law No. 7 of 2024 entitled “A Local Law to Abolish the Elected Position of Tax Collector and Transfer the Tax Collection Functions to the Town Clerk” be approved?
A copy of the Abstract of the Proposition and the proposed Local Law are available for inspection and copying at the Town Clerk’s Office, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159 during the Town Clerk’s regular business hours (9:00 AM -1:00 PM Tuesday-Thursday).
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE LOCAL LAW: The Town of Otisco Town Board desires to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in the administration of the Town’s tax collection process. To accomplish this, the intent of the proposed Local Law is to abolish the elected position of Tax Collector in the Town of Otisco and transfer all duties and responsibilities associated with the tax collection functions to the Town Clerk.
POLLING PLACES AND HOURS:
The referendum (vote) will take place on August 27, 2024 at the Town of Otisco Town Hall, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159. The polling place will be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
EARLY VOTING:
Early voting for the mandatory referendum will be held as follows:
Dates: August 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22, 2024 when early voting ballots may be completed and deposited in the ballot box at the Town Hall between the hours of 9:00 AM -1:00 PM on these days.
Place and Times: Town of Otisco Town Hall, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159 from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM on the dates specified above.
All registered voters in the Town of Otisco are eligible to participate in early voting.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
Absentee ballots are available for eligible voters who are unable to vote in person on August 27, 2024 due to:
- Absence from the county on August 27, 2024.
- Temporary or permanent illness or physical disability.
- Duties related to primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled.
- Being a resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital.
- Detention in jail/prison awaiting trial or for a conviction for an offense other than a felony.
APPLICATION FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s Office at the Town of Otisco Town Hall, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159 during the Town Clerk’s regular business hours (9:00 AM -1:00 PM Tuesday-Thursday). Requests for absentee ballots can be submitted as follows:
By Mail: Postmarked no later than August 20, 2024.
In-Person: At the Town Clerk’s Office at the Town of Otisco Town Hall, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159 from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM Tuesday-Thursday) up until August 26, 2024.
COMPLETED ABSENTEE BALLOTS MUST BE SUBMITTED AS FOLLOWS:
By Mail: Addressed to the Town Clerk’s Office, 1924 Barker Street, Tully (Otisco), NY 13159 and postmarked no later than August 26, 2024, and received by the Town Clerk no later than September 3, 2024.
In-Person: Delivered to the Town Clerk’s Office and deposited in the mail slot located at the front door of the Town Clerk’s Office by the close of polls at 9:00 PM on August 27, 2024.
